Cornhuskers Adds Football Players to Basketball Team for Big Ten Tournament

2 Min Read

The #14 seeded Nebraska Cornhuskers are pulling out all the stops as they prepare to compete in this year’s Big Ten basketball tournament that officially kicks off on Wednesday in Indianapolis, Indiana.

According to Huskers’ head coach Fred Hoiberg, the Nebraska basketball team will add a pair of football players to their roster for the tournament. Cornhuskers’ quarterback Noah Vedral and offensive tackle Brant Banks have been added to the basketball team ahead of the tournament (h/t ESPN).

Both players will be officially available as Nebraska takes on #11 Indiana in the opener.

Vedral, a sophmore, has played in six games, including two starts, for Nebraska during the 2019 football season, and he was a four-year basketball player at Bishop Neumann High in Wahoo, Nebraska, leading it to three C-1 state titles, which is the third largest division in the state, averaging 13.6 points per game during his senior season.

Banks played in four games for Nebraska’s football team during the 2019 season, but ended up redshirting. As a junior at Westbury Christian in Houston, Texas, Banks posted 11.5 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. Banks did not play basketball during his senior season after he enrolled early at Nebraska.

Following the indefinite suspensions of guards Dachon Burke Jr. and Cam Mack, Nebraska has only seven scholarship basketball players.
