Real Madrid Launches Twitch Channel

3 Min Read

Iconic Spanish futbol club Real Madrid have officially unveiled their brand new twitch channel as they prepare to deliver more content to their fans amid the shutdown of live sports during the coronavirus pandemic.

The channel has been launched with football suspended for the league due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and has used it to replay a number of classic matches, including the debut of Brazilian striker Cristiano Ronaldo.

It furthers the efforts of the club to produce content and keep fans engaged, as they have also launched a TikTok account.

“We want to increase the scope of our content in the face of the exceptional and difficult circumstances we are experiencing” the club said in an official statement on their Twitter page.

Last week, Football’s Spanish LaLiga and the Formula 1 motor-racing series announced plans to fill the gaps left by their respective postponements by launching virtual competitions for fans to enjoy, bringing the two brands together for the #LaLigaSantanderChallenge, which has been designed by Spanish video game influencer Ibai Llanos, according to SportsBusiness.com.

More and more people are turning to their twitch channels, or launching twitch channels and/or mixer channels, facebook gaming channels, or YouTube accounts in an effort to keep their audiences engaged and maintain branding during a global lockdown.

But the trend isn’t exclusive to sports. Musicians are leveraging twitch as well with many brands making it easy for them to gain access to monetization on the streaming platform and building the Twitch Music community, according to The Verge.

Real Madrid is just another sports team finding alternatives, similar to what the Tampa Bay Lightning did earlier this week.

But it doesn’t stop there. Athletes and people alike are finding alternatives to going to the gym and training, with many classes shifting to fitness streams to help keep people engaged. You can find yoga streams from popular instructors, weightlifting streams from bodybuilders, and workout streams from your gym and/or favorite fitness instructors more readily.

Streaming platforms have seen a rise in usage, particularly in video streaming such as Netflix and Apple TV+.

We are likely to see even more sports teams and personalities get on board as the lockdowns and quarantines continue.
