Free agent veteran quarterback Joe Flacco will be out of action until sometime in September after undergoing neck surgery back in early August, according to ESPN.
SiriusXM NFL Radio initially reported Flacco’s surgery and projected recovery timeline.
Flacco, 35, ended last season on injured reserve after he suffered a herniated disk in his neck, when he was a member of the Denver Broncos. The Broncos released Flacco with a failed physical designation back in March.
Flacco, a former Super Bowl MVP during his time with the Baltimore Ravens, was acquired by Denver with hopes that he could push the team towards to playoffs. However, Flacco struggled to a 2-6 record as starter and was sacked 26 times, taking big hits in the process, and producing only 16 points in just 2 games.
Following the season, Flacco stated that he hoped to continue his playing career once he was medically cleared to do so.
“I’m probably a little bit more worried about other things at this point, but if [being a backup is] what it has to be, I want to play football,” Flacco said. “Whether it’s [in Denver] or wherever, if that’s what it has to be for me to get back in and start playing again, then yeah, I’ll go that route.”
