Lakers’ Rajon Rondo Out with Broken Thumb

1 Min Read

When the Los Angeles Lakers take the court during the re-start of the NBA season in Orlando they will have do so without veteran guard Rajon Rondo.

According to ESPN’s Malika Andrews and Dave McMenamin, Rondo suffered a broken right thumb during practice on Sunday night and will likely miss about 6-8 weeks, per a team announcement.

Rondo, 34, is slated to undergo surgery on the fracture later this week, per the team. Rondo is averaging 7.1 points, 5 assists and 3 rebounds per game this season for the Lakers.

For the Lakers, the hits keep on coming as they are already without starting guard Avery Bradley, who opted out of the season restart due to health concerns amid the COVID-19 pandemic, forcing the team to sign guard JR Smith to fill the void.

Now, the Lakers will again have to address their backcourt in the wake of Rondo’s injury.
