The Los Angeles Angels have officially shut down two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani has a pitcher due to a Grade 1-2 strain of the flexor pronator mass near his surgically repaired right elbow, according to an official team announcement issued on Monday.
The Angels stated that those who have that condition usually wait four to six weeks before beginning a throwing progression, which would eliminate Ohtani from taking the mound again in the shortened season.
Ohtani underwent Tommy John surgery in October 2018, and had struggled in his first two starts of the season before complaining of discomfort.
Despite Ohtani not being able to take the mound, he is considered day-to-day as a designated hitter.
