The Boston Celtics win over the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 1 on Monday came with a bit of bad news as Celtics’ forward Gordon Hayward left during the fourth quarter of their 109-101 victory due to a sprained right ankle and did not return, according to ESPN’s Tim Botemps.

“Sprained ankle,” Celtics coach Brad Stevens said following the game. “Don’t know the severity, but he’s clearly in pain, and it looked like it had some swelling already. That’s my medical review.”

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojanrowski and Malika Andrews, Hayward would be getting an MRI to determine the severity of the injury.

The good news is that the injury occurred on the ankle opposite of where Hayward suffered a gruesome leg and ankle injury that cost him the entire 2017 season.

Hayward is averaging 17.5 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists for the Celtics this season.
