The Miami Dolphins are honoring legendary Hall of Fame head coach Don Shula, who passed away earlier this year, by wearing patches honoring him on their jerseys this season, according to ESPN’s Cameron Wolfe.
The patch will feature the number 347, which is the number of coaching wins Shula collected in his career, the most in league history, and will mark the first time in team history that a patch has been worn to honor an individual.
Coaches and team personnel will also wear a pin with the patch design to honor Shula.
Shula died at 90 back in May.
“Don Shula’s lasting impact on the Miami Dolphins, NFL and South Florida community is immeasurable,” Dolphins owner Stephen Ross said in a statement. “We are proud to continue honoring his historic life and legacy with a patch that is emblematic of his success on the football field as the winningest coach in our league’s history.
