The Jacksonville Jaguars have waived veteran running back and former first round pick Leonard Fournette, according to an official team announcement issued on Monday.

Fournette, 25, was the fourth overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft and spent three seasons in Jacksonville, rushing for 2,631 yards and 17 touchdowns during that time.

If Fournette clears waivers, he will become a free agent.

Jacksonville did not pick up the fifth-year option on Fournette’s contract and pursued trade scenarios in an effort to move him, but found no serious offers.

Fournette had on and off field issues, with the team voiding  the remaining guarantees in his rookie contract following his one-game suspension for fighting with Buffalo Bills linebacker Shaq Lawson, and former executive vice president of football operations Tom Coughlin ripping him for being “disrespectful” and “selfish” for sitting on the bench while he was injured and inactive during the Jags’ season finale.

Additionally, Fournette was arrested back in April 2019 for driving with a suspended license.

Fournetee turned in a career season in 2019 with over 1,600 yards from scrimmage, 1,152 rushing yards and 76 receptions and 522 receiving yards.
