The Baltimore Ravens have suspended stat safety Earl Thomas for conduct detrimental to the team after he was sent home on Friday for getting into a “heated argument” with safety Chuck Clark during practice, according to the Baltimore Sun’s Jonas Shaffer.
Thomas and Clark had multiple confrontations during practice on Friday, but Thomas seems to be a headache for the Ravens and, according to Jason LaCanfora and Ken Weinman of 105.7 the Fan in Baltimore, “there is mounting frustration” among the Raven’s defensive backs regarding Thomas. Apparently, some have issues with Thomas being “punctual and focused” and “not freelancing” with some thinking DeShon Elliot should be getting more reps in practice.
Now Thomas has been suspended, but it’s fair to wonder if this is the first step in the Ravens getting rid of Thomas alltogether?
According to Pro Football Talk, Thomas has a fully-guaranteed salary of $10 million in 2020, but his contract states that if he is suspended by the team for conduct detrimental to the team, then that guarantee is gone.
Thomas signed a four-year, $55 million deal with the Ravens back in March 2019.
Should the Ravens cut Thomas, it would carry a $5 million cap charge for the 2020 season and another $10 million in 2021.
Where this goes from here remains to be seen, but given the acrimonious departure Thomas had from the Seattle Seahawks, it seems that this drama isn’t going to end anytime soon.
