The Washington Football Team may have a quarterback battle on their hands with the return of Alex Smith, but Dwayne Haskins is showing that he is deserving of hanging on to the starting job.

While Haskins experienced his fair share of struggled during his rookie season, he is showing improvement this offseason, and it’s evident to his teammates.

“I’ve been around Dwayne since he’s come to Ohio State, so I’ve known him for a while and he’s going to be the first to tell you that he’s not making any excuses for last year,” Washington wide receiver Terry McLaurin said, according to Sports Illustrated.

McLaurin also played for Ohio, and knows Haskins well. McLaurin has noticed that Haskins has stepped up this offseason.

“The way he’s attacked this offseason has been different than I’ve ever seen him attack football” McLaurin said. “That doesn’t mean he wasn’t working hard, it’s just a different kind of focus. He lost some really good weight, he put on some muscle. He just looks really good. Hungry.”

Haskins, who Washington took with the 15th overall pick in the 2019 draft, is hoping to show strides in his second season after he threw for 7 touchdowns and 7 interceptions over 9 games, including 7 starts, last season.
