Quarterback Quinn Ewers, who is the number 1 ranked prospected in the 2022 recruiting class has officially announced his decision to decommit from Texas, according to ESPN’s Tom VanHaaren.

Ewers, who is from Carroll High School in Southlake, Texas, had initially committed to Texas back in August, but had been rethinking his decision after he drew interest from other schools, such as Ohio State and Alabama.

“Recently, as I’ve competed alongside my teammates during my junior season at Southlake Carroll, I’ve also taken some time to think about my future,” Ewers said in his announcement on Twitter. “Given the COVID-19 pandemic facing us, this has been a challenging year for all students like myself. With the support of my family, I tried to navigate the recruiting process the best way I could.

“With the process being abnormal this season, I tried my best to keep an open mind to all possibilities.”

Ewers is 6-foot-3, 205-pounds marks a big loss for the Longhorns.
