As his eight game suspension nears it’s conclusion, free agent wide receiver Antonio Brown may be finding a new team to play out the 2020 season, despite his myriad of off-field issues.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Brown’s suspension is eligible to conclude after Week 8, and the Seattle Seahawks are now exploring adding him to the team, as well as other teams.
Seahawks quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Geno Smith are both friend with Brown, and worked out with him during the offseason, and they have all discussed bringing Brown to Seattle.
While the Seahawks and Brown have not engaged in contract negotiations, there is certainly momentum building that will bring the troubled wide receiver to Seattle.
The NFL announced back in July that they have suspended Brown for eight games without pay for multiple violations of the league’s personal conduct policy.
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll spoke about the team potentially adding Brown to their already talented offense.
“So we’ll see what happens as we go forward, but we’re tuned into what’s happening there,” Carroll said, while stressing that the team is not too far into exploring his background and off field issues.
“We’re nowhere there right now, so let’s wait and see what happens and all that,” Carroll said. “But we do all of the homework we can think of doing. We will never think that we can leave a stone unturned. That’s how we approach everything, so we’ll continue to do that here.”
The Seahawks are also awaiting the reinstatement of wide receiver Josh Gordon, but Carroll said that their interest in Brown isn’t connected with Gordon’s situation.
“All I can tell you is we’re in on everything,” Carroll said. “We know about Josh’s situation as well and we’ll take them as they come kinda and hopefully we’re really well prepared to make the right choices and figure out how it fits and all that kind of stuff, so those situations are not connected. They’re handled independently.”
