The Jacksonville Jaguars will be starting veteran quarterback Mike Glennon under center, his fist start in three seasons, and they are set to take on the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
The start will be Glennon’s first since September 107, when he was a member of the Chicago Bears. Glennon started the first four games of the 2017 season before the Bears named then-rookie Mitchell Trubisky the starter for the remainder of that seasons.
Glennon last appeared in an NFL game for the Las Vegas Raiders (who were in Oakland) in their blowout loss to the New York Jets. Glennon only threw 7 passes in that contest.
“I think [Glennon] gives us the best chance to win,” Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone said, according to ESPN’s Mike DiRocco. “Like I said before, Jake’s going to take a step back, Gardner’s still limited without a full week workload on. I don’t want to put anyone out there that I haven’t seen do a full workweek. Mike’s experienced, and that’s why we brought him in here, to be able to fill in whenever we need him. So he’ll get his opportunity.”
Glennon takes over for Jake Luton, who has struggled mightily recently.
“I told Jake that, ‘Hey we really appreciate everything. We really like a lot of things that you’re doing, but we’re just going to take a step back and just kind of digest things for a while,'” Marrone said. “… He’s fine, and I think he’s got a chance to become a good football player in this league. Gardner said he’s feeling good. … I just feel like we can’t get enough throws in during this week.”
