The upcoming Arizona Cardinals vs. San Francisco 49ers game that is scheduled to take place on December 26th will skip national television networks to air exclusively on Amazon Prime Video, Twitch, and two local affiliates as part of a newly expanded deal between Amazon and the NFL.

According to The Verge, the new deal grants Amazon exclusive streaming rights for the NFL’s Thursday Night Football through 2022, with the Cardinals/49ers game serving as a weekend “exclusive”, an event that will take place each season per the new deal.

It’s another strong signal of the continuing boom of twitch channels in both popularity and in profitability, especially in 2020, and another example of big brands, such as the NFL, focusing on opportunities within the streaming industry, and it also shows the growth of the niche for sports content creators, such as professional athletes, teams, and even leagues.

According to an official press release from Amazon, the game between Arizona and San Francisco will also be available to stream on mobile through the NFL, 49ers, Cardinals, and Yahoo Sports mobile properties.

The NFL is leveraging the interactive features offered by Twitch, creating a new experience for NFL viewers. Amazon says viewers using its platforms will be able to modify their twitch streams in a unique way, and will be using their X-Ray feature for on-demand replays on Prime Video, as well as Twitch overlays, and within the live chat on channels during live streams.

It’s certainly big twitch news for the industry, as Amazon continues to build on an impressive 2020 that has seen an astronomical growth in both viewership and revenue.
