The National Football League will officially expand their regular season from the current 16-game slate to a 17-game slate, and from a four game preseason schedule to either a three or two game slate, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.

This move was expected and the league will make it official in the coming weeks.

With the new CBA salary cap floor of $175 million, the addition of an extra game will likely drive that floor up moving forward, but is still widely expected to fall short of this year’s $198.2 million max.

The new schedule will not add an extra bye week, will push the Super Bowl game to the second week of February, and the additional game will likely be an will be an inter-conference matchup.
