The Philadelphia Phillies are finalizing a deal to officially hire Dave Dombrowski to become their new President of Baseball Operations, according to ESPNS’ Jeff Passan.

Dombrowski had indicated he planned on spearheading the initiative for a group of investors to bring a major league team to Nashville, however the Phillies doubled down on their efforts to bring Dombrowski in the fold following their struggles to find a top baseball operations official during their search process.

Dombrowski, 64, won a championship heading the roster of the 2018 Boston Red Sox, but was fired after a disappointing follow-up campaign in 2019.

Dombrowski also wont a World Series with the 1997 Florida Marlins, and helped build their 2003 championship team before leaving to head the Detroit Tigers, where he led them to two World Series appearances.

Dombrowski will have a lot on his plate with the cash-strapped Phillies, who seem to be in financial straits this offseason.
