Dolphins Players Didn’t See Enough from Tua Tagovailoa in 2020

A number of anonymous Miami Dolphins players believe that young quarterback Tua Tagovailoa didnt’ show them enough with his play during the 2020 season to make them believe he should be the team’s unquestioned starter for the 2021 season, according to the Miami Herald’s Armando Salguero.

Dolphins general manager Chris Grier stated last week that Tagovailoa is their starting quarterback for 2021, despite struggling in the season finale against the Buffalo Bills. Tua has struggled to spark the offense at various times during his play this season.

“I understand what they said,” one player said regarding the decision of Tua as starter. “But I don’t understand why.”

The report goes on to say that some players said that they were unimpressed by Tagovailoa during training camp to the point they thought he wouldn’t be ready to play in 2020, and were “caught totally off guard” when he was named the starter in Week 7.

Despite the criticism, the three players said that Tua is a great person who is “humble” and “quiet” and “a competitor”, and they are hoping he can take a major step forward in his development next season.
