The Detroit Lions are planning to hire New Orleans Saints assistant head coach/tight ends coach Dan Campbell as their next head coach, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Campbell, 44, and the Lions will still have to work out a deal, but it is believed that those talks will not be an obstacle and the Campbell is going to be the head coach in Detroit.
When he is officially hired, Campbell will take over for Matt Patricia, who was fired back in November following a dismal three seasons at the helm where he compiled a 13-29-1 record.
The Lions have finished last in the NFC North for the past three seasons.
Campbell has never been a coordinator in the NFL, but served as the interim head coach of the Miami Dolphins after they fired Joe Philbin. Campbell is considered to be a motivator as opposed to an Xs and Os guy.
