The Detroit Lions are working on trading franchise quarterback Matthew Stafford as the two sides have mutually agreed to part ways with the expectations that a deal will go down ahead of the 2021 NFL Draft.
According to NFL insider Michael Lombardi, three teams stand out as the favorites to land the veteran signal caller this offseason.
Those teams are the Indianapolis Colts, the New England Patriots, and the Denver Broncos.
“The Colts have $64 million (in cap room), count them in” Lombardi said, during the GM Shuffle with Michael Lombardi and Adna Virk podcast. “The Patriots, $57 million, count them in on Matthew Stafford.
The Broncos, maybe? They have $14 million, but they have to clean up their cap” Lombardi noted. “So, I think it’s a three-team race, I think it’s the Colts, the Patriots, and the Broncos will linger. That’s it.”
