Rams’ Matthew Stafford Will Play on Current Contract

1 Min Read

The Los Angeles Rams got a new quarterback on Saturday night when they completed a trade with the Detroit Lions for quarterback Matthew Stafford, in exchange for quarterback Jared Goff, a third-round pick in 2021, a first-round pick in 2022 and a first-round pick in 2023.

While the Rams were able to move away from the massive contract Goff had with the team, Stafford still has two years and $43 million left on his current deal, and the plan is for Stafford to play under his current deal, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.

Stafford, 32, reportedly valued a good fit over money in any potential trade, and the Rams are valuing the short-term option he provides.

Stafford ends his Lions tenure owning the franchise record in both passing yards and touchdowns.
