The Minnesota Twins are signing veteran starting pitcher J.A. Happ to a one-year deal for $8 million, according to The New Post’s Joel Sherman.
Happ, 38, ended a lopsided sting with the New York Yankees, capped off by a brutal 2020 campaign which saw Happ take issue with the organization throughout the pandemic-shortened season, by implying that the Yankees had been trying to limit his usage in order to prevent a $17 million option from vesting.
However, the Yankees didn’t see much in the form of production from Happ to have much trust in his abilities. Happ started his Yankee career strong following his trade from the Toronto Blue Jays, but in the seasons following his arrival he became unreliable, inconsistent, and was constantly called out by fans for his brutal outings.
There were stretches where Happ showed the form that made him the anchor of the Blue Jays rotation, such a strong six-game stretch last season, during which he had a 1.93 ERA
