The Washington Football Team is set to hire Marty Hurney as their new general manager which will bring head coach Ron Rivera a familiar face, according to the NFL Network.
Hunrey, who worked with Rivera while the two were with the Carolina Panthers, met with Washington brass, which included Rivera, on Monday and the franchise is now working out the details to officially bring Hurney on board.
Hurney began as an intern with Washington, before landing in Carolina where he played a role in selecting many of the players that led the Panthers to Super Bowl 50, including quarterback Cam Newton.
Rivera will still have power on the football side in the organization, having been hired to provide a “coach-centric” model, according to owner Dan Snyder.
Now, the franchise will embark on a large rebuild, while continuing their re-branding in what is shaping up to be a busy, and pivotal offseason for the organization.
