49ers Not Bringing Back Richard Sherman

1 Min Read

Although it shouldn’t come as a shock, the San Francisco 49ers are moving on from veteran cornerback Richard Sherman who is set to hit unrestricted free agency, according to Sherman, who represents himself in negotiations.

“It’s been made pretty clear,” Sherman said regarding his departure from the 49ers, via the Sacramento Bee’s Chris Biderman.“It was a good conversation, nothing crazy. Just a good conversation about where they are and where I am, and their plans. We were both very positive and as good as you can be in a situation like this.”

Sherman, 32, played at an elite level during the 49ers Super Bowl run in 2019, but injuries limited him to only 5 games in 2020, and his numbers showed a decline in cover skills. Still, Sherman is expected to draw interest on the free agent market from teams looking to add a veteran corner, though Sherman may no longer be the Pro Bowl back he once once.
