Veteran wide receiver and three-time Pro Bowl selection Dez Bryant made his return to the National Football League last season after two years out of action with the Baltimore Ravens, and while he didn’t produce much during his six games with the team, Bryant plans on continuing his career for another two years.
It just won’t be with the Ravens.
Bryant, 32, collected a total of six receptions for 47 yards and two touchdowns last season with the Ravens, and finished as the team’s fourth receiving option, becoming the second Pro Bowl wide receiver to miss two full seasons and return to the NFL since the 1970 merger, along with Josh Gordon, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
“I realized quick Baltimore wasn’t the place for me,” Bryant said in a series of tweets on Tuesday evening. “No bad blood. That’s their way of doing things so you gotta respect it.”
“It’s hard. I’ve been off almost three years. I flashed my abilities to the point [Ravens head coach John] Harbaugh asked was I ready to play because he thought I was ready …You have to learn the playbook … chemistry with the QB have to be on point.”
Bryant was also asked about his chemistry with Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson – “Our chemistry was good on and off the field. But it was guys there before me who understood the offensive concepts better than me. You can’t jeopardize that.”
“I wasn’t bothered about playing time,” Bryant wrote. “I enjoyed myself. I met some great teammates, guys I feel like I will be keeping in contact for a long time. I’m thankful for the opportunity Baltimore gave me.”
“I plan on playing 2 more years and that’s it for me” Bryant later said.
However, given his lack of impact and production, it’s hard envisioning another team giving Bryant significant playing time even if he is able to land a new deal.
