Brooklyn Nets superstar guard James Harden is apologizing for how things ended during his exit with the Houston Rockets earlier this season that led to the blockbuster trade that landed him in Brooklyn.

“I apologize for how it went down, but I guess I had to do what I had to do in order to get where I wanted to go,” Harden said in an interview with ESPN’s Rachel Nichols, h/t ESPN’s Tim MacMahon. “It ended up the right way. I just didn’t like how that month or two played out.”

Harden’s dedication to the team was questioned by then-teammates John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins leading up to the trade, and his effort appeared to slow in the days leading up to the three-team deal.
