Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper is “obsessed” with finding a long-term franchise quarterback during this offseason, and the team will remain in pursuit of Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson who may be available for trade, according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer.

The Panthers were hoping that they had their guy when they signed Teddy Bridgewater to a three-year, $63 million deal last offseason, but he was lackluster during his debut season with the Panthers.

Should Carolina move forward with Bridgewater under center, he will earn a base salary of $17 million plus bonuses totaling $1 million.

The Panthers have been linked to Watson, and are armed with the 8th overall pick. Carolina recently created additional cap space by reworking the contract of veteran center Matt Paradis, as they eye a potential deal that could land Watson, and his contract.
