Yankees Sign Robinson Chirinos To Minors Deal

The New York Yankees have reached an agreement with free-agent catcher Robinson Chirinos on a minor league contract, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.

Chirinos, 36, has been a solid offensive catcher during his tenure with the Texas Rangers, whom he earned a regular role with back in 2014, but struggled last season splitting his time with the Rangers and the New York Mets.

Chirinos has experience catching Yankees ace Gerrit Cole, and while he has never been considered and elite defensive catcher, he can still carve out time as he competes with Kyle Higashioka for backup time behind Gary Sanchez.

Chirinos posted a .162/.232/.243 line with one home run last season.
