49ers Expected to Make Jimmy Garoppolo Available

1 Min Read

The San Francisco 49ers are expected to make quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who has a no-trade clause in his contract, available for trade this offseason, according to the Boston Globe’s Ben Volin.

This is the belief from a few around the league despite 49ers general manager John Lynch recently saying that he has no doubt at all that Garoppolo will be the 49ers starting quarterback in Week 1 of next season, during an appearance on Clark Judge’s ‘Eye Test for Two’ podcast (h/t FullPressCoverage).

The 49ers had been tied to former Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford prior to his trade to the Los Angeles Rams last month, and have been mentioned as one of the potential destinations for Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson.

While it appears that a lot of dominoes would have to fall in order for the 49ers to move on from Garoppolo, the report indicates that San Francisco “would have to be bowled over by a trade offer” to move the oft-injured signal caller.
