The Arizona Diamondbacks are currently awaiting the results of tests regarding the soreness in the right forearm of starting pitcher Zac Gallen, who may not be available for the start of the regular season on April 1st.
Gallen, 25, said he first felt the injury when he was jammed during batting practice about 10 days ago, adding that he can feel the soreness when he throws his curveball. Gallen was scratched from his scheduled start on Monday, and received an MRI and an X-Ray on Sunday, with doctors still evaluating the results of those tests.
Gallen, however, is hopeful that this is just a minor setback.
“We’re still gathering information, so it’s tough to really map out a plan,” Gallen said (h/t ESPN). “For me, though, mentally I’m going to want to be on the field as soon as possible. I’m going to be chomping at the bit.”
Gallen was easily the Diamondbacks best pitcher during the 2020 shortened season, posting a 3-2 record to go along with a 2.75 ERA, finishing 9th in the National League Cy Young Award voting at the end of the season.
