Houston Texans head coach David Culley seems to be taking the same firm stance that the organization is when it comes to the status of their disgruntled franchise signal caller Deshaun Watson who has demanded a trade.

Despite Watson’s vow to never play a snap again for the Texans, Culley and the organization seem to believe that Watson will be their starting quarterback now, and for the future.

“We are very committed to Deshaun [Watson] as our quarterback. He is our quarterback,” Culley said, according to ESPN’s Sarah Barshop. Naturally, this led to more questions regarding the dynamic between the Texans and Watson.

“It’s not a matter of me trying to change anyone’s mind” Culley said when asked about Watson’s trade demand, according to the Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson. “We’re committed to him. He’s a Houston Texan and we’re going to move forward with that,” adding that there is no “contingency plan if Watson decides not to report to training camp.

Culley also said that Watson is committed to the Texans.

It’s a big shift from when Culley spoke with the NFL Network’s Jim Trotter earlier, which left the reporter firmly believing that Watson will be traded.
