The Washington Football Team and veteran quarterback and Comeback Player of the Year Alex Smith are parting ways this offseason, according to NFL Network insiders Ian Rapoport and Kim Jones.
Smith made his return to the team this season after suffering what was believed to be a career-ending injury back in 2018, and posted a 5-1 record as the starter in Washington, leading them to a playoff berth as well.
Smith, 36, now enters free agency for the first time in his career, but at this point he may only be given opportunities to serve as a backup, given the severity of his injuries and his up-and-down play last season.
Smith posted 1,582 passing yards, six touchdowns and eight interceptions in eight games during the 2020 season.
