The Detroit Lions are waiving veteran running back Kerryon Johnson, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.

Johnson has spent his entire career with the Lions organization, as the team selected Johnson in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Johnson saw significant time as the lead back during his rookie season, collecting 854 yards from scrimmage and clocking in four touchdowns.

However, a knee injury sidelined Johnson, 23, during the 2019 season, and 2020 saw the Lions utilize 2020 rookie running back D’Andre Swift in the lead back role, and also giving time to veteran Adrian Peterson.

During the 2020 season, Johnson rushed for 368 yards from scrimmage over 16 games. Detroit added Jamaal Williams during the offseason, and drafted Jermar Jefferson during the 2021 NFL Draft.
