Duke Blue Devils head coach Mike Krzyzewski, who is the winningest coach in Division I men’s basketball history and who has led the Blue Devils to five national championships during his 41 seasons, will be officially retiring following the 2021-2022 season, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Duke already has a successor set up as associate head coach Jon Scheyer has agreed to become the next head coach once the legendary Krzyzewski officially steps down.
Krzyzewski, 74, has accumulated 1,097 career wins during his tenure at Duke, taking the Blue Devils to the Final Four on 12 occasions, winning 12 regular-season ACC championships and 15 conference tournament titles.
Krzyzewski’s teams have produced 28 NBA lottery draft picks, and 41 first round selections overall.
Krzyzewski’s five national titles rank second to the iconic UCLA head coach John Wooden, who was able to win 10 during his legendary career.
