The Tennessee Titans are one of the teams that have been linked to trade talks regarding Atlanta Falcons superstar wide receiver Julio Jones, but in order to pull off a trade for Jones they will have to move some money around.
That could be accomplished, in part, by restructuring the contract of starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill, but Tannehill says that they two sides have not discussed a potential contract restructuring yet.
“That’s up to [Titans General Manager Jon Robinson],” Tannehill said, according to Ben Arthur of The Tennessean. “He’s going to have to figure that out if that’s something we want to do as an organization. I don’t know. It’s above my pay grade. If he comes to me, then we’ll have that conversation then.”
Tannehill is signed through 2023 via the four-year, $118 million contract extension that he inked with the team back in 2020. Tannehill is currently slated to make $24.5 million in based salary for the 2021 season and carry a $29.5 million cap hit.
Tennessee could explore converting a chunk of that cash into a signing bonus, and push some of the money due down the line a bit, but it appears nothing has been formally discussed as of yet.
Jones, on the other hand, carries a $15.3 million salary for the coming season.
