WWE Set For Madison Square Garden Return in September for SmackDown

2 Min Read

WWE will be making their highly anticipated return to Madison Square Garden for a Friday Night SmackDown taping on September 10th, according to PWInsider .

In addition Andrew Zarian of The Mat Men Podcast added that “WWE did not book MSG to stick it to AEW, this was in the plans for a very, very long time.”

WWE was originally scheduled to hold two events at The Garden in 2020, both of them were canceled during the pandemic. New Japan Pro Wrestling was also scheduled to run there in August of 2020 as well, but that event was also scrapped due to COVID-19.

MSG finally returned to full capacity this past Sunday for a Foo Fighters concert marking the arena’s first sellout event since the COVID-19 outbreak hit New York City in March of 2020. WWE unofficially has plans to hold their post- Christmas house show there, as well on December 26th.

The World’s Most Famous Arena had long been considered the home of WWE, but with MSG allowing Ring of Honor & NJPW to hold their Super Card of Honor show there during WrestleMania 35 weekend in 2019.

Many speculated the relationship between the McMahon’s & The Garden had been fractured but time heals all wounds and it looks like WWE will be holding shows there on a regular basis.
