Bears, Allen Robinson Unlikely to Reach New Deal

1 Min Read

The Chicago Bears and veteran wide receiver Allen Robinson are considered unlikely to reach an agreement on a new long-term contract ahead of this week’s deadline, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.

Robinson and the Bears have until July 15th to work out a long-term contract extension, and if the two sides fail to do so then Robinson will play the 2021 season under the franchise tag which will earn him $17.9 million.

It’s unlikely that the Bears will pony up the likely hefty price tag to apply another franchise tag on Robinson next offseason, so this could be Robinson’s final year in Chicago. If the Bears fall out of playoff contention early, Robinson will be a name to watch on the trade market leading up to the deadline.
