The 10-game suspension of Seattle Mariners left-hander Hector Santiago for having a foreign substance on his glove during a game has been officially upheld following an appeal, according to ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel and Jeff Passan.
According to league rules, the Mariners will not be able to fill Santiago’s roster spot for the entirety of his 10-game suspension. Santiago was tossed during the Mariners 3-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox back on June 26th during the fifth inning and his glove was inspected by umpires.
Santiago later admitted the he used rosin on his glove side, which is in violation of the MLB’s foreign-substance rule.
