Big 12 2022 Recruiting Classes

Last time I looked at the recruiting classes of the ACC. Now let’s see where the Big 12 classes stand.

Even though both Oklahoma and Texas will be leaving for the SEC, they will still be included here. Until the move officially happens, the two schools are still members of the conference. Now let’s look at the classes. Like last time those rankings are from the 247sports composite.

1. Oklahoma: Oklahoma’s 15-man class is ranked as seventh-best in the nation. The class is led by the Big 12’s lone five-star recruit Luther Burden, the top receiver in the 2022 class. Eight other players are four-star with three top-100 recruits in Running Backs Raleek Brown, Gavin Sawchuk, and Defensive Lineman Derrick Moore. Four other recruits could finish as three-stars if they have strong enough seasons. They are Tight Ends Kaden Helms, Jason Llewellyn, Saftey Robert Spears-Jennings, and Cornerback Jayden Rowe. It will be interesting to see how the Sooners finish out this class.
2. Texas: No surprise that Texas has the second-best class in the Big 12. While the Longhorns have struggled recently, they are still a big name in college football.  The 17-man class is the tenth-best in the nation. Ten of their commits are four-stars, with eight of them being from Texas. One of the four-star from out of the stat is California Quarterback Maalik Murphy. Safety Bryant Allen Jr is the school’s only top-100 recruit. The class also includes the second-best kicker in Will Stone and the best Long Snapper in Lance St. Louis.
3. West Virginia: The Mountaineers also have a 17-man class that’s ranked 19^th in the nation. The includes three four-stars in Cornerback Jacolby Spells, Quarterback Nicco Marciol, and Linebacker Travious Lathan. Running Back Justin Williams, Wide Receiver Kevin Thomas, Tight End Corbin Page, and Athlete Christopher Strokes are on the cusp of being four-stars. Page is also the top player in the state of West Virginia. This is a solid class that West Virginia has put together so far.
4. Iowa State: Iowa State has an 18-man class that is ranked the 25^th-best in the nation. Four-stars Defensive Lineman Hunter Dayo and Wide Receiver Greg Gaines are the Cyclones top-two commits. Iowa State also has commits from the third, fifth, and sixth-best players in the state of Iowa. They are Dayo, and Linebackers, Jacob Imming and Will Mclaughlin. Three-star Rocco Becht, son of former NFL Tight End Anthony Becht, is the quarterback commit for the team. Tyler Perkins is ranked as the fourth-best punter in the nation.
5. Baylor: Baylor has the 26^th-best class in 2022 with 20 commits. The class has one four-star in Athlete Kaian Roberts-Day. Two other commits that could be moved up to a four-star are Offensive Lineman George Maile and Quarterback Zach Pyron. Tight End Kelsey Johnson is the Bears’ highest-ranked recruit from Texas. Maile is one of six offensive line commits for Baylor. The rest are Coleton Price, Alvin Ebosele, Timothy Dawn, Kaden Sieracki, and Bryce Simpson. Baylor should be almost done with 2022, so they may be prioritizing who else they will take.
6. Oklahoma State: The 30^th-best class in 2022 belongs to Oklahoma State with 13 commits. Three of those commits are four-stars in Wide Receiver Talyn Shetton, and Running Backs Ollie Gordon and CJ Brown. High three-star Garrett Rangel is the Cowboys quarterback in 2022. Shetton and Brown are the second and sixth-best recruits in the state of Oklahoma. Shetton is also a top-100 recruit. There’s still a ways to go with this recruiting class.
7. TCU: There is a drop-off from Oklahoma State to TCU in terms of the recruiting rankings. TCU has a nine-man class that is ranked 62^nd in the nation. The class includes two four-stars in Wide Receivers DJ Allen and Matthew Golden. Allen is also the team’s lone top-200 recruit. The Horned Frogs’ top three recruits (Allen, Golden, and Defensive Lineman Joseph Adedire) are from Texas. The team does not have a quarterback committed to them. TCU should rise in the rankings as they pick up more recruits.
8. Kansas State: Kansas State has a ten-man class that is ranked 65^th in the country. They are one of two teams in the Big 12 that does not have a four-star commit. Athlete Silas Etter is the Wildcats’ highest-ranked commit and the highest-ranked from Kansas. Wide Receivers Tyson Struber and Sterling Lockett, and Linebacker Tobi Osunsami are also from Kansas. Kansas State also does not have a quarterback committed to them.
9. Texas Tech: Texas Tech has the smallest class out of any Big 12 team with seven commits. The class is ranked as the 76^th-best in the country and includes one four-star in Athlete Maurion Horn. Running Back Bryson Donnell is the highest-ranked commit from Texas. The Red Raiders are another team that does not have a quarterback committed to them. With a class so small it’s tough to say where Texas Tech will end up when it is all said and done.
10. Kansas: Kansas has an eight-man class that is ranked 86^th-best in the country. The Jayhawks are the other school that does not have a four-star committed to them. Three-star Cornerback Jalon Peoples is the team’s highest-ranked recruit. Just like with the previous three mentioned, they do not have a quarterback commit. Five of their eight commits are defensive backs. Peoples is joined by Kaleb Purdy, Jacobe Chester, Dewuan Mack, and Anthony Davis.
