New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton is expected to remain away from the team until Thursday due to a “misunderstanding” on COVID-19 tests “conducted away from NFL facilities”, according to an official team announcement.
According to the team announcement, Newton needed to leave the New England region after he traveled to a Patriots-approved medical appointment, which ended up requiring the signal caller to leave the area.
“He received daily Covid tests, which were all negative. Due to a misunderstanding about tests conducted away from NFL facilities, and as required by the NFL-NFLPA protocols, Cam will be subject to the five-day entry cadence process before returning to the facility,” the statement read.
While Newton will continue participating virtually in team activities, he will miss practices Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
