The New York Yankees continued their impressive second-half surge by notching their 12th straight victory on Thursday night with a victory over the Oakland Athletics, who are currently trying to catch the Bronx Bombers for a wild card spot.
The Yankees continue to gain ground on the division leading Tampa Bay Rays, and are now just 4 games back in the chase for the American League East division crown, and are currently in the drivers seat for an American League Wild Card playoff berth.
New York collecting their 12th straight win marks the first time the Yankees have accomplished the feat since 1961, over a half century ago.
“We’re playing well, we’re playing for a lot, and it’s a lot of fun to be part of this team,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said (h/t AP).
