Exclusive: Rachel DeMita Talks Content Creation, YouTube Success

5 Min Read

If you have played NBA 2K over the past decade then chances are you know who Rachel DeMita is – the basketball loving host and content creator who conducted interviews with players and shared updates with gamers as part of the NBA 2K experience.

That was an innovative feature when it first arrived in 2K and has continued to be a big part of the game since.

DeMita is now focused on content creation and the continued success of her YouTube channel. With over 275,000 followers on Twitter,  over 332,000 followers on TikTok, and over 1.2 million followers on Instagram, DeMita has built an impressive brand, especially as many YouTube influencers and sports content creators, as YouTubers continue to find ways to monetize and traction on a social media influencers marketplace.

“My videos have definitely evolved over the years based on my interests and different career projects” DeMita told me in an exclusive interview with Sports Rants. “Luckily, I’ve built a loyal fan base that continues to support me as my content changes. I feel like every year I’m learning something new about YouTube, making tiny tweaks to my content in order to maximize visibility and ad revenue. YouTube is definitely my most diverse platform, where I create content beyond sports and fitness. I like that I’m able to share another side of myself on YouTube, and don’t feel boxed into any specific categories. ”

Like many content creators on YouTube, and on other platforms such as Twitch, DeMita has faced the hurdles of discoverability and visibility throughout her career.

“In 2019-20, I took a long break off YouTube” DeMita said. “Since returning and regularly uploading, I’ve noticed a significant decline in my viewership. The YouTube algorithm has definitely changed over the years, and whether that’s the reason for my viewership dropping – or people simply are not interested in my content – I am not sure. But, I do feel as if my videos are not getting pushed out how they used to, and less of my subscribers see my new uploads.”

“One of the things that is definitely difficult to navigate on all social media platforms is the changing algorithms” she continued.

“New features, feed order, recommended content, etc. can truly change who and how many people your content is reaching. Discoverability is harder than ever in today’s world of social media because of the growing numbers of users on each platform, and pure saturation of content that circulates daily. Consistency is also very important to keep your pages relevant… but it can be draining on your mental health, feeling the pressure to continuously upload, even when you are uninspired or burnt out.”

It’s the issues of discoverability that are holding a number of creators and steamers back. But now platforms such as Gamactica are introducing new innovations to help creators along their journey, which helps in influencer marketing campaigns, and can help answer common questions such as ‘how to grow on Twitch‘ or any other platform.

“I definitely think that any platform that offers a better sense of community will help creators” DeMita said of the Gamactica platform. “Collaborations are also key to growth and discoverability in today’s social world… so having a platform that makes it easy to connect with other like-minded creators would be great.”

DeMita continues to work hard on her brand and content. Focusing on being diverse in her creations, and consistent with her output. DeMita also values the community building aspect of content creation, and the impact it can have.

“I think the key for all brands when working with influencers and creators is to build a solid community. When working with brands, I always remember the experience and the people I interact with more than the product itself.”

DeMita has already made a name for herself, and has made a mark in the content creation industry, and she has more in store for fans in the future.

“I have a few entrepreneurial endeavors that I am currently working on in the clothing and supplement space that I am super excited to share” DeMita says. “For my social channels, I hope to do more collabs in the near future, since we are able to travel more now. Stay tuned for a podcast on the way soon too.”
