The Pittsburgh Steelers and veteran outside linebacker T.J. Watt, who had been in negotiations throughout training camp this summer, have announced a new four-year contract extension worth $112 million, according to an official announcement on Friday.
Watt’s new deal includes a $35 million signing bonus and $80 million guaranteed, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. A number of Watt’s teammates have been publicly pushing for the organization to sign him to a mega-deal, and reacted in celebration on social media when the deal was announced.
The average annual value of $28 million per season makes Watt the NFL’s highest-paid defensive player.
