Philadelphia 76ers superstar Joel Embiid and head coach Doc Rivers were none too pleased with the officiating of Thursday’s loss to the Brooklyn Nets and did not hide their frustrations during the post-game presser.
The main point of frustration centered around the lack of calls made when Embiid attacked the paint, and those non-calls were the topic of conversation following the game. The loss dropped the Sixers to 15-15, a far cry from their impressive 8-2 start to the season.
“I thought Joel got fouled the last three post possessions, and-ones, and none was called,” Rivers said, according to ESPN. “I don’t know how a team can play the fourth quarter of a game where we’re driving the ball and posting the ball and they have zero fouls. It’s hard to play a quarter in the NBA and commit no fouls. Very surprised by that.”
Embiid also aired his frustrations, referencing a home-court advantage for Brooklyn.
“I mean, they’re the home team,” he said. “I thought we got fouled a few times, especially down there. But, I mean, it’s frustrating when they’re calling fouls for the other teams down there and you don’t get any. I can see what he (Rivers) was talking about.”
