Early on during Super Bowl LVI it appeared that Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was on his way to a Super Bowl MVP award as he hauled in two receptions for 52 yards and scored the first touchdown of the game.

However, Beckham suffered an injury to his left knee on a noncontact play with a little under four minutes in the second quarter and it would prevent him from playing another down during the Rams victory.

Beckham was injured when his left foot got caught in the turf as he was running a crossing route and attempting to haul in a pass from Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford. Beckham would drop the pass and collapse to the turf.

“Yeah I actually spent some time with him in the locker room before coming out after halftime and just, really just held him,” Rams wide receiver Robert Woods said of his talk with Beckham, according to ESPN . “It’s tough. He’s dealt with a lot I would say his whole career … but just being able to hold him and say, ‘I’m right with you.’ I’ll be here every step. Every rehab day. … He’s a competitor, I know he’ll be back even stronger and hopefully he’s back with us.”

Beckham was signed by the Rams after being released by the Cleveland Browns at midseason and was able to cash in $1 million for the Super Bowl victory, which maxed out the $3 million available in his contract incentives.

More details will be coming this week regarding the extent of his injury, but for now Beckham is celebrating a Lombardi trophy.
