Panthers Taking Christian McCaffrey Trade Calls

1 Min Read

The Carolina Panthers aren’t shopping superstar running back Christian McCaffrey but they are picking up the phone and listening when teams are calling to inquire about his availability, according to ESPN’s David Newton.

According to the report, a team could acquire McCaffrey for a package that likely would include a first round draft pick and a cap-friendly player, which may seem like a rather high price tag and rather difficult due to McCaffrey’s contract.

McCaffrey, 26, has a running back record average annual value of $16 million, and that cap hit is set to rise as the years go on, with him set to earn $14.3 million in 2022, and upwards towards $17.7 million in 2023 and 2024.

Complicating matter even more, and driving down McCaffrey’s trade value, is the fact that he has played just 10 games over the past two season due to a myriad of hamstring and ankle injury issues.
