Carolina Panthers linebacker Damien Wilson was reportedly arrested in Frisco, Texas last week after his ex-girlfriend claimed that Wilson threated to kill her, according to the Dallas Morning News.
Wilson, 28, signed with the Panthers last month following stints with the Dallas Cowboys, who drafted Wilson out of Minnesota during the 2015 NFL Draft, and the Kansas City Chiefs, where he played two seasons.
Wilson now faces a charge of assault with bodily injury of a family member, Frisco Police Sgt. Stephen Byrom said in an email to the Dallas Morning News.
“Damien Wilson did not commit any type of assault,” Wilson’s attorney, Toby Shook, said in a response to the allegations issued to the Dallas Morning News. “We look forward to all the facts coming out so his name can be cleared.”
According to the report, Wilson’s ex-girlfriend, Ryan Sokolosky claims that after she had broken up with Wilson, he showed up to her apartment drunk and threatened to kill her with a tire iron. She also claims that Wilson destroyed her laptop by wrapping it in a blanket and slamming it to the ground, telling her it was her cat, and says that Wilson attempted to run her over before driving off.
“He thinks all of it’s a joke because he’s rich and thinks he’s going to get out of everything,” Sokolosky said, per the report.
Sokolosky gave permission for her name to be used, and says that she obtained a protective order against Wilson.
Wilson was in trouble in 2017 when he was accused of brandishing a rifle and threatening tailgaters outside a soccer venue. Wilson was arrested on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. A grand jury declined to indict Wilson.
