The Dallas Cowboys will be without superstar left tackle Tyron Smith for what is likely multiple months of the 2022 season after Smith suffered a town hamstring during practice on Wednesday, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer and Adam Schefter.
Smith was hurt during a running play where he went to the ground as he attempted to make a block on linebacker Leighton Vander Esch, and while he was able to walk back to the locker room under his own power, the news that came was grim.
Initial tests on Smith showed that the ACL in his left knee was intact.
Smith, an eight-time Pro Bowler and blind-side blocker for quarterback Dak Prescott is a critical part of the Cowboys offense and one of the best tackles in the league, so his loss for any amount of time is quite significant.
The Cowboys kick off the 2022 season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on September 11th.
