The Boston Red Sox are set to designate veteran outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. for assignment later today, according to the Boston Globe’s Juliam McWilliams.
The Red Sox reacquired Bradley during an offseason trade with the Milwaukee Brewers that sent Hunter Renfroe to Milwaukee. Boston was also able to land a pair of prospects in infielders Alex Binelas and David Hamilton.
As part of the trade, the Red Sox agreed to take on the second year of Bradley’s two-year, $24 million contract.
While Bradley had a rough year at the plate in 2021, he was still a stellar defensive outfielder.
As far as 2022, Bradley is posting a slash line of .210/.257/.321 which is improved but not enough to motivate the Red Sox to carry him on the roster.
