AEW Negotiating Buy Out of CM Punk’s Contract

2 Min Read

It appears that CM Punk’s time with AEW is coming to an end, as a result of the backstage brawl that Punk was involved in with executives The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega and others back in September.

According to The WrestlingObserver, AEW is in talks to buy out the remainder of Punk’s contract, as AEW President Tony Khan and other higher ups within the company do not intend to bring Punk back to TV. At this time there is no sum reported related to the buyout.

Additionally, the feeling in AEW seems to be more in favor of The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega, and negative towards Punk.

The report goes on to say that despite his bad falling out with WWE, AEW fears Punk could sign with WWE, as they are the only other company that can afford him. However, WWE was hesitant to sign Punk when FOX pushed him to do so during his time as a host on WWE Backstage.

A lot has changed since then, and given Punk’s viability and popularity, along with his impact in AEW regarding PPVs and merchandise, the new regime at WWE could see this as a major win, and a big gut punch to AEW.
