1 Min Read

The San Diego Padres are adding some thump to their lineup, agreeing to a one-year, $1 million deal with veteran slugger Nelson Cruz who will play in his 19th season this year, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

Cruz, 42, will be the second-oldest player in the big leagues this year behind Pittsburgh Pirates left-hander Rich Hill and will land in San Diego with hopes of getting some at-bats as their designated hitter.

Cruz hit .234/.313/.337 with 10 home runs in 507 plate appearances for the Washington Nationals last season.
